In April of 2006, Berea College hosted a conference the organizers called Campus Community Partnerships for Sustainability. It was a grand success and colleges and universities around the state decided to make it an annual event. Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University organized the conference in 2007 and 2009, respectively.
In 2010, Bluegrass Community & Technical College, Transylvania University, and the University of Kentucky are pleased to sponsor this conference. Co-sponsors are LexTran, UK’s Student Sustainability Council, Lexington Fayette Urban County Government, and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.
The conference in a nutshell:
- Jeff Biggers, keynote speaker on Friday evening (April 16)
- Tom FitzGerald, banquet speaker on Saturday evening (April 17)
- Kentucky Proud Luncheon (catered by UK) and Dinner (by Transylvania University)
- Saturday sessions, including:
- Plenary panel discussion featuring visionary thinkers in sustainability
- 30 presentations, 10 poster presentations, goal-setting sessions, exhibits
- Sunday morning field trips: green buildings, community gardens, EcoArt, Cane Run, Recycling
- Mini-conferences on Friday for M&O Staff, and for K-12 Teachers
